The Elgin - 1970s Large Carved Opal Diamond 14k Gold Convertible Pendant Brooch

A fantastic vintage carved opal, diamond and 14k yellow gold brooch / pendant convertible. In the center we can see a very large opal carving in a brutalist style 14k yellow gold mounting with diamonds. In the back has both a pendant bale and a brooch pin. The opal shows strong play of color. This is a substantial piece measuring approximately 2.5 x 1.5 inches and 18.1 grams. This striking piece comes to us from the 1970s era when jewelry design was approached as sculptural art rather then fashion bringing us unique and iconic creations

Gemstones: opal approximately 42x25mm (or approximately 1 1/2 x 1 inches) a large freeform carving, we cannot estimate the weight of the opal due to it's irregular shape but it is substantial. Opal shows a good deal of crazing. Diamonds - round brilliant cut diamonds approximately 0.24ct total diamond weight , estimated color G-H/ clarity SI2-I1
